Decorating with Poinsettias: Holiday Living Room

Is your holiday decor looking a little humdrum this year? Let poinsettia accents flourish anywhere your home needs a decorative boost! With their saturated, showy red bracts, poinsettias are just the thing to perk up a floor, furnishing, or window. Decorating with poinsettia accents allows you to bring a cohesive element to your room while still giving you the flexibility to mix and match a variety of items.

For this holiday living room, we started with five larger pieces that would set the stage for all kinds of accessories to be added afterward. We used the following:

  • a full, coordinating window treatment (curtains with tiebacks and a matching valance)
  • a tall, flat-back tree that could be pushed close to the wall (decorated with faux poinsettias, of course)
  • a grand wall mirror set (central mirror and two grille-style sides)
  • a decorative stained glass fireplace screen
  • a statement rug (a poinsettia runner with shaped edges)

From here, we simply embellished the room with smaller poinsettia accents or glimmering accessories:

  • two different holiday throw pillows nestled together on a loveseat
  • a trio of glittering red wire tree accents grouped on the floor
  • a ribbon-and-greenery garland placed across the mantel
  • a pre-lit poinsettia wreath hung over the fireplace
  • an angel topper with poinsettias displayed atop the tree

Start Collecting Seashell-Shaped Coastal Rugs

Your bare feet sink into the wet sand as you pad along the shore, searching for the prettiest shells. After vacation’s over, you take your lovely shells home and place them in a clear jar—but you still miss those sunny strolls on the beach. So get swept up in a little coastal decorating! These seashell-shaped rugs will make you want to start your own “shell collection” on the floors of your home.

These seashell rugs have contoured edges and cool or neutral tones, as if they’ve just washed onto your floors by the foamy tides. Place a seashell bath rug on your bathroom floor for a soft surface underfoot, a runner down a hallway for an unexpected touch, or an area rug beside your bed to complement your dreamiest coastal bedding.

Home Decor in Green Inspired by the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone has named Greenery its Color of the Year for 2017, and decorators everywhere are choosing this fresh, yellow-green shade to breathe new life into their home interiors. Go bold with this gorgeous green, and use it to cover a large area of the home like a door, wall, or floor. Or, plant a few fun green accent pieces in a room, and see the difference this crisp, invigorating shade can make.

Mix green with bright white for an energizing and pristine look; or soften its impact with low-key neutrals. If you’re really feeling adventurous, pair it with a lemon yellow shade for citrusy appeal, a bold turquoise for a cool beachy vibe, or a deep fuchsia for a garden-inspired appearance.

Here are just a few of our favorite home accents inspired by the shade Greenery! Click on any image to view a variety of home decor in green.
